Lew Jenkins

Lew Jenkins - Steel Guitar

Lew Jenkins hails from New Glasgow Nova Scotia where his earliest pre-teen musical influences were his Dad who played just a little fiddle and mouth organ, but lots of country radio. Lew sang in the junior church choir and was impressed by sound of the big church’s pipe organ. That planted the seeds.
At 13 Lew started playing flat top, made a small steel guitar in the grade 10 school workshop, and made his first TV appearance on CFCY-TV at age 15 with that steel and his older brother. "Pick Me Up On Your Way Down".
Hank Williams songs with Don Helms on steel guitar and Chet Atkins were two top favorites, then the Ventures.
Lew played rock and roll lead guitar through most of his teen years but kept his love for the sound of the steel guitar, going back to the instrument in his 20’s when he moved to Halifax.
He laughs and says, “Whenever I’d hear a steel guitar, it was as if my ears would bend like a cat or dogs in the direction of that sound! I was hooked on that powerful sound back then, and I still am- and love it!"
Lew’s well known in Halifax (and elsewhere in Canada) as he played pedal steel in/on radio, TV, recording studio sessions, and with numerous country bands, including 2 years on the road.
Lew moved to Fredericton about 20 years ago, and has been active in the original Capital City Jamboree, local recordings, and many country bands playing around the NB area.
